Misty Copeland: Dance Idol

So Misty Copeland is credited as being the first african american soloist at ABT. She is a very amazing dancer.

According to her website (http://www.mistycopeland.com/), she started ballet at 13 – like me. The only difference is, she was on pointe within 3 months. She’s considered a prodigy.

At 15, she won the LA Spotlight Awards and the LA Times named her the Best Young Dancer in the greater los angeles area.

Misty has attended San Francisco’s Ballet Summer Intensive and ABT’s summer program. She had trained at the San Pedro Dance Center, The Lauridsen Ballet Center in SoCal, and of course, ABT. She had received ABT’s National Coca Cola Scholar award and the Leonore Anneburg Fellowship in the Arts.

This girl is amazing. I mean….come on!! She’s been in a bazillion magazines, has her own website, and has endorsed several well known products; not to mention dancing all these fabulous and challenging roles.

This girl truly is a dance role model, someone to aspire to be like. Right now, I’d say if there’s any dancer I could be like, it’d be her. Maybe I’m not a prodigy. Maybe I started pointe later then she did, but that doesn’t matter. It’s not a question of “if,” its a question of “when!!”
